People are hungry for stories.  It is a part of our very being.
Studs Terkel, author & oral historian

Can you remember a time when someone close to you shared a story that moved you, made you laugh, changed your mind or blew open your heart?  How powerful and fun it was when a father took the time to really tell why he vowed never to play sports again after only two high school football practices.  Or you recalled a memory that offered some healing to a friend in a time of grief.  Or a business facilitator told just the right story to illuminate the moment.

We are often so busy looking at stories on TV and movies, that we underestimate the impact and value of telling our own stories with real listeners. Stories connect people; they soften the heart, make us laugh, heal old hurts, help us learn – and they entertain. Paying attention to our own stories can do the same within us.    As we focus our attention on personal stories, we are refreshed by a wellspring that enriches our lives - emotionally, professionally, artistically, and spiritually.

Telling stories is as natural and vital as taking a breath!  And this weekend workshop welcomes everyone: those curious about storytelling and those who love stories - even those who don’t see themselves as creative.

During the weekend you will:

  • Discover your innate capacity as a storyteller
  • Find stories that speak to you
  • Learn how to ‘embody’ those stories
  • Draw on personal and cultural images and memories in shaping narrative
  • Cultivate and enjoy the bond that forms between teller and listener
  • Practice being present as the story unfolds

As a teacher, Connie Regan-Blake invites deep listening and telling on many levels.  Her approach is welcoming, powerful and fun; & her teachings can be useful in the corporate world, with family and friends or on stage. She guides us in remembering personal triumphs, losses, regrets and joy and in using our senses, imagination and intuition.   Together, we will create an encouraging, playful and appreciative community as we learn through oral exercises, movement activities, and story-partnering.

Join us as we explore our stories and our lives in the midst of the beautiful fall colors of the Appalachian Mountains.
